Avian Flu
What are your thoughts? Are you as scared as I am? The thought of millions of people dying and the inevitability of it scares the shit out of me. I am going to ask my doctor for a Tamiflu RX. Yeah, like I will be able to find a pharmacy that has it in stock. I worry for my kids. What a shitty time to be growing up. Terrorists, Natural Disasters, Disease. I swear, if I would have known my kids would have to deal with this, I would have never had them.

see I'm trying not to think like that, the more we panick, the worst it's gonna seem! If we keep acting like the sky is falling we don't get anywhere. We need hope, harmony, and balance, thats what kids need. Disease has always been around, and we have always gotten through it, and advance medically. Lets just all stay prepared, by most of all, hopeful, no panicking!

Yeah we're being told about it too....they said that it passed though, but then on the news they are saying we've stopped imports of birds from canada that tested positive for the disease thingy. *sigh* I dunno. It was weird to read in the paper when they first told us about it how only the politicians and people like that would get first dibs on the stuff you take to not get the disease.

I blame my mother and my bio teacher for freaking me out about this one. My mother has turned me into the perpetual worrier. I worry about everything, nonstop. Subconsiously, I'm always thinking of every possible danger that might come my way or face those around me, and I try to come up with solutions ahead of time. My bio teacher taught us about disease last year, and made us watch the movie 'Outbreak'. Did somebody say, 'worst-nightmare-come-true"!!!!? I doubt I'll be able to get a vaccine. I worry about my dad, though. He's an international consultant, dealing with clients from all over the world every day. So... yeah. *breathes*

I try to think positively about these things. After all, it is not the middle ages, our hygiene is outstanding, Europe thinks we(North America) are neat freaks/germophobs. These new diseases don't even come close to rivaling Ebola or Black Plague. It's not something to be cavalier about, but the generic flu mutates every year due to the vaccines and it's ability to become unaffected by medicine. I hope everyone tries to live their lives normally. Side note: Outbreak, good movie, good movie...

who's stupid mouth- 11-03-2005

yeah really, i don't think there's a reason to panic...and we already have to keep all birds inside.. i'm not gonna get vaccinated and nor do i have to, it's like mad cow disease...sure, it's out there, but the chances you will be affected by it are rather small.. so try not to worry :) this is the 21st century, as the person above said..hygiene is great now being oblivious is not good, but if you can't get enough sleep because you worry is clearly not the way to go either.. :)

Woah, I totally missed the boat on this one, could some explain what this "flu" is about?

bulletproofmarshmellow- 11-03-2005

Woah, I totally missed the boat on this one, could some explain what this "flu" is about? bird flu. you get it when dealing with birds or consuming them (KFC is gonna be broke). It started in Indonesia, where they were so friggin stupid -I'm sorry, I have a right to say this, they're my neighbour country and they could've KILLED MEE HELLOOOOOO??? - anyway, they were so friggin stupid, they decided to treat it as a Top Secret "We Can Solve This Ourselves" case & then it started spreading throughout Asia and then died down until it recently re-appeared in Moscow. But I agree with who's stupid mouth, it started right next to me & I'm still alive aren't I? (So are all the Indonesians *slaps forehead*)

Lil' Washu- 11-09-2005

Uh oh...I had a chicken patty yesterday. But I read on an online encyclopedia that there is no proof that the virus survives through being cooked. And besides, it's not like the chicken patties at school are REAL chicken. *knock on wood* Although, I do feel sick today...ugggh, I'm probably just scaring myself *knock on wood again*

Rezz- 11-09-2005

I try not to think about it so much. Mostly because I love chicken, and if I keep thinking about bird flu everytime I take a bite, I'm going to go crazy lol

One of the many reasons I'm glad to be a vegetarian: soybeans can't give you viruses

BiggerThanMyBody- 11-09-2005

meh bush is only scaring people. Only what 5-6 people have died from it. If it was an "epidemic" wouldn't ALOT more people being dying? I think people are freaking out about this a little to much, yeah it can be serious, but you can die from having just about anything. Just take caution when handling stuff, wash your hands after coming from places, drink lots of water, stuff like that. It shouldn't prevent you from having a life. How long have we had dieases? these politians sometimes over state things, like you don't do this, or that, or you die. Not saying its not serious cause it is, but just don't over worry yourself over these things. This why i stop watching the news a few months ago, i was getting so over worried about EVERYTHING i was becoming parnoide so much. meh is sad what my generation and younger generations have to go through now  Not saying adults aren't suffering, but the younger gen are now going to have worry about EVERYTHING. People thought sars was going to take over this world, it didn't. and we lived.

Lil' Washu- 11-09-2005

Yeah, I should really stop watching the news. I usually don't watch it, but when I flip through channels or surf the web, something catches my eye, and I just have to take a look at it. It always turns out bad... But yeah, we've obviously lived through much worse, so this shouldn't a big deal.
