The real John?
This was posted at http://www.myspace.com/johnmayer today. Maybe it's just my imagination, but doesn't it sound like it could be John? Just the way it's written...either that or someone's getting really good at "being John". What do you guys think? Day One "myspace". What the hell is myspace? Every time I heard about it I kind of passed it off. Sounds cute, but not my thing. I never typed the address in a browser until I learned that someone was pretending to be me, which gets weaker the longer you think about it. I would pretend to be somene everybody knows, but that's just me. I think big. A few months ago I reclaimed the page as my own, and since then I've been checking in every now and again. And one thing that's really moved me is that even if you had no confirmation that I'm the guy with the login (I wasn't) or even looked at it (a little bit) you still posted your thoughts, like some kind of digital message in a bottle. I think that's beyond cool. So here I am. It's a chilly, rainy November evening in New York, never more of a Wednesday than today. I've decided to take the page on. I'm not sure how yet... I just want to stay connected. In my life, disconnecting is the beginning of the end. So how have I been, you ask? I'll tell you. I'm excited about music. I'm sad about change. 12 months is a lot for a year. My heart can take about 10 and some odd days, and then I'm just stalling. Like a Subway sandwich. 6 inches, not enough. 12 inches, 3 too many. Measure it next time. 3 inches of sub remain, always. The world feels so separated right now. And cynical. So cynical. There is no one statement in the universe that applies to any two things. I love music more than ever. I'm better at listening to it than I've ever been. I just want to stay connected. I just got off the road with my new band, and I'm working through the traditional post-tour "what now" scenario. I don't go to sleep until the edge of the horizon starts to trun pink. I play guitar and peer at myself in the reflection of the TV turned off, as if I've never been on a stage before. I've had to answer a lot of questions regarding the impetus behind the change, which is about as exciting as talking about what it's like being tall. There's no language behind it. That's why I suck at interviews. I have nothing to say. This is where my soul is. Belch. In case you're wondering why a guy who's sold a boatload of records, etc. is choosing to write on a site like this, it's easy to explain. The world we used to know is gone. There are no more towers to look down from. It's all on the ground level. No more places where being a star is really fun anyway, to be honest. I wish someone told me when I started playing guitar at 13 that all it was going to take 10 years later was having the word "very" in front of ANY personality trait and I'd be famous for something. You finally make it into the gold circle and realize it's made of pewter. Sweet. But there's one more gold circle left. It's music. The last true frontier, where cheaters never win, and the fakers are picked off before they even get a note out. My faith is not in star power, it's in soul power. And that's the last great tower to look up to - that place where greatness comes from... It's the last gold circle. And you're standing in it. It's only music now. John NYC

i'm skeptical, i howver did send over a friends request

BiggerThanMyBody- 11-09-2005

I totally believe it. for two reason. and i tend to just over think how things COULD be for reason that people might not understand (if that makes any sense) For one i just have a feelings it him, it sounds like stuff he would say, its written in a manner that only John could really present. Two, at the end where he says, its only music now, MOST and again i am going by experience here, most fakers don't put a "end the post line" most of John's post have those, such as, its only music now...john mayer. Most fakers will only consentrate on dumb stupid things to say making it SOUND like its the real person. They try so hard to convince people its really that person, that they over look certian details. If that's not John, then that is the most right on impression of him and fakers will always spell something wrong, they say something that the person will NEVER say. That post is just to much like John for it not to be. ok now call me nuts all you want.

AnotherKindOfGreen- 11-09-2005

eh. i don't think he'd say "it's only music now" twice... i'm skeptical

BiggerThanMyBody- 11-09-2005

Like i said if that's not John they got his writing down cause that's just way to of natural post for it to be fake. Again you never know, but i still ask to be on the friends list

AnotherKindOfGreen- 11-09-2005

oh well, even if it isn't him if the first blog is any indication it'll be an interesting site to check in on every once in awhile :)

bowlingchicky83- 11-10-2005

There are two mis-spellings or mis-typings. Curse the proofreading that is engrained in me from "Uncle PK" and my Arerican Lit courses yast year! Not to nit-pick, but they are there. The whole dissertation of Subway hoagies and their inadequate length is hilarious and right on. 8) Try a WaWa hoagie! They come in 10 inches, then you only have 1 inch left over! (They also come in other sizes, but the 10er is niiice.) :D

cali_babe2- 11-10-2005

he should go to sub marina. i think they have 9 inch sandwhiches. or are they just where i live, if that's the case he should come visit me, one's not to far from my house.

Juliane- 11-10-2005

I donīt know... the writing sounds like him, but I never believe when celebrities show up online like that.

who's stupid mouth- 11-10-2005

yeah, i saw the spelling mistakes as well, and i thought he had such good writing skills...if he never made spelling mistakes before, then why are they in it now? so, i'm skeptical too :) but it's well written, i like the towers reference/methaphore
