When he was on MOD today the blond VJ brought up how his albums translate live. He then said something to the effect of, but with albums everything comes out perfectly in-tune and then came off a bit distant for a moment after. I heard of some negative media reviews, but haven't read anything personally. But I wonder if there was any connection and if the show could of been precieved as 'off', this simply being one of the reasons?
Great seeing the photos and reading the after stories. Thanks for posting Kendra, ect!

okay - here's my attempt at doing some sort of a little review. i suck at these and i have the shortest memory known to mankind so here goes...
the shitty part about the night was that we waited over an hour from the time we got in there until he actually took the stage. i think there was some sort of earpiece difficulty and we know "mr perfect"
we all know the setlist, thanks to the widget.
Clarity - as always, to hear this live is goosebump worthy. had he not had the horns there i'm sure this wouldn't have been played. perfect opening
I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)- i was there the first time this song was played so i feel like i've heard this song grow. and it's become a fucking amazing one. to hear it full band, tweaked and perfected, i'm so completely in love. DRH adds so much to it. and Dela's bass playing is completely different than Pino's by FAR. i have it on video, i'll upload it later. absolutely amazing
Why Georgia - seriously, this song is never going to get old. when it came time for us to sing, he said "let's see if you still got it in you" something to that effect. the oldies were so fun
My Stupid Mouth - i was so shocked to hear this but it so fit nicely into the setlist
Vultures - i freakin love this song. my memory is starting to fail me here but i do remember not too many people around me knowing too many of the new stuff. odd.
The Heart of Life - i gotta admit, not a huge fan of this song. although he sang it like he was into it. at the end though, the horns seemed like they were really off. maybe it's my dislike of the song but who knows.
Something's Missing - ahhh, memories. this song speaks for itself everytime it's played. seriously. mel, i know you can vouch for me here.
Gravity - i think i zoned for this one or again, my memory because i'm not getting much on this one. ha!
Waiting on the World to Change - man, the whoooole crowd was in on this one. the vibe was awesome. and then hearing it on the radio today threw me right back into it last night.
Daughters - here's another song i can't really stand. but i do have to admit. his guitarist (sorry i can't remember his name) added SOOO much to this song. his style was incredible. changed the song just enough to make me listen with different ears.
In Repair - probably the song of the night. the guitar solo was what made me melt. i stood there thinking, "this is it. this is the once in a lifetime opportunity that i came here for tonight" he was completely on. the meaning of this song and everything about it is stellar.
-- encore --
No Such Thing - kinda surprised he chose this for the encore. but still, an oldie but goodie.
I'm Gonna Find Another You - i don't really love this one either. i'm hoping that these songs i don't love grow on me. i really do.
overall, this concert seriously was something that i'll never forget. as i mentioned earlier, the trio show was the more raw mayer. the absolute if you will. just him playing the shit out of the guitar. last night it kinda seemed like he was still trying to feel things out, trying to find where things fit. and i'm sure that might be because it's the first time he's performing some, if not all of these songs infront of a live audience with a full band knowing that they're on the CD. not that he's worried, but you know.
he didn't talk all that much, other than in response to the guy who kept screaming. in response to "i want to have your babies" john said "i got 2 reasons why that can't happen" a few seconds went by and we're all trying to figure out what the 2nd reason is and he says "you want to know what the 2nd reason is don't you? it's cause i just don't want to but we can pantimime after the show"
he joked a little. stupid little john humor here and there but not all that much.
anywho - i hope that's not too long. or boring. but i'll try and get the vid and pics up later/tomorrow.
enjoy

Great review, Kendra :) I heard his bandmates played quite a bit more than normal compared to John, is that true? Btw, he's played all those songs live before but judging by the setlist it did seem like he was trying to see how to work the old in with the new. I can't WAIT to hear/see "I Don't Trust Myself." Not meaning to be greedy but did you happen to get "In Repair" also? I'd love to hear that with the full band. So cool you got to go - thanks again for sharing!

I heard In Repair was indeed amazing. I'm staying away from the new songs, or at least everything I hadn't heard prior that was in the Hotel Cafe shows, still. But I may just torrent the show to listen later on.
But anyway, great review Kendra. I don't understand the direct negativity. While I'm sure the show wasn't perfect it seems by most personal reviews I've read that it was indeed an amazing show. My husband said he read a slightly negative review from a Quebec media source and actually made note to me before I brought anything up that he heard the show was only ok. Essentially it's up to each person, fan or media, to disern what their impressions of the show are.

Kendra, thanks for the review and the video! It's so cool that there are so many videos from this show, I'm hoping later today I'll actually have time to watch them all (and try to catch the continuum radio broadcast too). I've been patiently waiting for the new songs up until now, but since my show is tomorrow I think hearing them at least once before I go would be a good thing.

Sorry if this sounds stupid or if it doesn't exactly fit the thread.. but how the heck do you open the widget for this show?

My cheese factor review.
Clarity - I love hearing this song live, it is the most amazing experience.
I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You) - I really liked what he did with the track. The melody that he was working with during the '04 tour and just blew it away at the MOD Club.
Why Georgia - classic Mayer, that song will NEVER get old for me
My Stupid Mouth - a complete surprise, a lovely one at that
Vultures - this wasn't one of my favorite Trio songs and didn't get much air time on my iPod. Listening to it live and watching him just giver on the guitar changed my mind in a second.
The Heart of Life - this song is officially my new favorite Mayer song. There was something about it that completely clicked with me that the first chord hit, and I was already crying.
Something's Missing - I enjoyed this track, something about audience interaction that I LOVE!
Gravity - another song that I really didn't like alot from the Trio album, though when it was played on Monday I had a complete 360
that is the first bit. kind of what i can still remember...and i'm getting tired.
