2005? Really? Huh. Felt 1975ish. (I watch VH1 Classic. Lay off.) Like Trans-Ams were lining the parking lot outside. It was as loud as it was hot. What a killer sound check, too. Not like it matters to anyone at the show, but it was ultra-productive. So was the bus ride post-show, come to think of it. Our good friend Dick Boak designed these amazing Martin guitars called a Terz...about a third the size of a standard acoustic, but so much soul, it's not even funny. Pino and I were playing these things long into the morning. That man can play the hell out of a guitar, people. Day off in Nashville - hide your vintage guitars, Music City. I'm coming for 'em...There's a prompt on my screen in response to a premature click of the "save and close" button; "A body is required." so true. |

I'm so upset I didn't go to that show...
I was in the area, too, but the tickets were sold out |

Ryman Auditorium, Nashville

Our first theatre of the tour...Makes a man and band want to do some more like that. Something about the presentation makes sense to me. I understand those who sit during a show. If you can find times in life to sit and still do what you need to do, fantastic. What a sound in that place, too. That room just smiles back at you while you play. It's a very interesting dynamic that's started to take shape lately - when we started the tour, we were as new to the music as the audiences were, but now we know it (and ourselves) somewhat better. It's Nashville's first time seeing us, though, and so we have to very patiently but boldly send our music across. Pays off by the end of the night, from what I can tell way up on stage. But what do I know... I'm the last person to find these things out. Spanky, whom we met through Pino thanks to his days with D'Angelo, visited us on a few tunes, an offer extended after some really wild dressing room jams. Someone should have put that one out on CD...Nice to have met the man responsible for all those amazing guitar parts. It all felt |

The Tabernacle, Atlanta
Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at 12:02PM
I'm not going to say I forgot what it was like to play in Atlanta, but it all came back to me when we walked on the stage. I know the life down here. And knowing that, I can appreciate what people are appreciating...I guess that lent itself to the comfort level. My comfort level. If "Why Georgia" lent itself to being played by a power trio, we would have hung on it for a while last night...Looking forward to the rematch.
The Tabernacle, Atlanta (Night Two)

What a cool day...Rubbed off on the show. Sounded so good last night, there was no need to sound check. The band met up 15 minutes before show time, and then assembled on stage to do our thing. I'm gonna miss that thing. Had my first ping of sorrow on stage tonight. Not too long before we take that last bow. I'm just now starting to feel like I belong here, too. Band's not going anywhere, I remind myself. We're off to the studio to continue assembling the live album, called "TRY!" coming out November 22. We've decided to take the best performances from the entire tour and line 'em up. Should be a great album. Had to have Waffle House tonight. Not a part of my man Harley Pasternak's Five Factor Fitness, but a cultural landmark nonetheless. The plug should keep him off my back. Atlanta, you've kept it more pure than any place I've ever been, and I love you for it. You know your music. Let's take this thing to the Fox Theatre someday...
AND...
Good Love Is On The Way, is the free download of the week.
It has album art and all the tags too. |

all the post-show updates make me happy. (silly, i know). gives me something to look forward to.
and in regards to the last entry: the fox is gorgeous. my first thought was one of hope he'll follow through with that one day; it would be a great place for him to play.
(and he went to Waffle House! ;) lol. my grandfather needs some sort of "frequent fryer" card. he's had bypass surgery twice.) |

| I like that one! I love reading his perspective on his own shows. We sit back and watch him at our own view but to see how he thought of his shows is really interesting to read. Cause after all i believe the biggest critic to any one's work is the person themselves! |

Everything is different these days. I used to get off stage thinking I messed everyone up, only to hear the recording back and cringe...now I get off stage and cringe, but change my tune when I listen back. We must be doing something right if we play for 2 hours and then groove to the entire show on the bus. I'm taking lots of pictures lately. I can feel the home stretch coming in and I want plenty of things to listen to and watch when we take our (decidedly finite) break. Friday and Saturday night shows, man...Always try and see a band on the weekends. There's a deep responsibility to move every last soul in the room. Plus everybody in the crowd just got paid, and they're all giddy. (I said "paid.") Funny, Chad said he wanted the band to sign the poster so he can frame it, and everyone on the bus, including our driver, all said "me too!" having thought of it on their own at some point. If everyone can keep their energies in check, this will end up being one of the greatest tours any of us have done. Wait til the New England vibe shakes it all up again... |
